Three for Thursday 01.28.2021
Welcome to TrustDALE's Three For Thursday with Consumer Investigator Dale Cardwell.
A few thoughts on self-confidence and self-criticism. It's so important to have both, but in appropriate proportion. I know a lot of people who exude self-confidence, but it's not backed by talent or value. I know a lot of people who have incredible talent and the ability to create value, but the voice in their head tells them they're not good enough or say to themselves "what will they think of me?" If you have that thing in your head you believe could be amazing, but not sure where to take it, I recommend you pick up the soon to be published book by my friend and TrustDALE vendor/partner Chris Lalomia "From the Zoo to the Wild." It will help you turn down the critical voice and give you the self-confidence to try your idea. Congrats Chris! He tells me you can preorder by searching for the title on Amazon!

Today's seven-point lesson on working out a problem before it blows up: For those of you who have been following Three for Thursday, you know I apply a real-life situation to my seven-point process. From now on, I'm going to tell a brief story and identify which of the seven standards are relevant and can protect us all.
Roof rip-off: Brendan and Emily Love got an unsolicited knock on their door and within an hour wrote a check for $19,000 - for a roof they never received. Where did they go wrong?
Fast - Do they want your money NOW? Unless it's bubble gum, never pay 100% in advance!
Funds - - Is the investment required relevant to the promised payoff? If not, it's likely too good to be true.
Found - A person who intends to rip you off will make certain he can't be found after he gets your money.
Define - Your deal by comparing Product, Offer and Price. Always get three estimates, especially when getting something as expensive as a new roof.
Ensure - Your deal with an Ethical negotiation, an Equitable contract, and an Effective Guarantee.
Authenticate - Your deal by requesting References, checking reviews, and examining government and watchdog reports. If Brendan would have taken this step, he would have found insufficient information on this roofer, which means there's not enough certainty to hire.
Legitimize - your deal by determining if the company has a business license, liability insurance and is Lawsuit and background checked.
