Three for Thursday 07.21.2022

Welcome to TrustDALE's Three For Thursday with Consumer Investigator Dale Cardwell.

Don't take friendships for granted. For nearly twenty years, I had one of the best friends God could grant. His name was Jay Grover, and he was a renaissance man. Jay was a police detective, an entrepreneur, a salesperson and an operations manager. Most of all, Jay was a great human being. I have a lot of friends. Jay made me look like a nomad. He never declined a request for assistance, and he never asked for anything in return. Jay was the most fun person in the room, the most resourceful person in the room, and he knew where your skeletons were buried, and you were ok with that. Jay passed away July 19th after a sudden unexpected illness. I'll miss him dearly, especially his storytelling, his quick wit, and his laugh. Jay lived life to the fullest. Rest in peace my dear friend, you left the world a better place than you found it.

Todays Lesson on how to be a Savvy Consumer!

Today's seven-point lesson is on how to approach buying a used vehicle.

Fast - Do they want your money NOW? Before signing a contract, make certain an independent mechanic inspects the vehicle. Buying "As is" truly means- "as is," in most states.

Funds - Is the investment required relevant to the promised payoff? Beware deals that appear far below true value. You might be buying a salvaged or water damaged car.

Found - A person who intends to rip you off will make certain he can't be found after he gets your money. If buying from a private owner, make certain he or she has the title to the car and the name matches the seller.

Define -Your deal by comparing product, Offer and Price. The best way to get value when used car shopping is to shop around.

Ensure - Your deal with an Ethical negotiation, an Equitable contract, and an Effective Guarantee. This is the most dangerous step. If buying from a dealership make certain you understand the terms, especially if you're financing.

Authenticate - Your deal by requesting References, checking reviews, and examining government and watchdog reports. Bad news follows bad dealers. Check online reviews. Make sure you have the vehicle inspected by an independent mechanic before purchasing.

Legitimize - your deal by determining if the company has a business license, liability insurance and is Lawsuit and background checked. It's a great idea to review a dealer and/or private sellers lawsuit history.
