Three for Thursday 08.06.2020

Welcome to TrustDALE's Three For Thursday with Consumer Investigator Dale Cardwell.

Let's talk about something I don't think we take seriously enough. Trading our privacy and security for convenience. It took a while, but people started realizing the downside of Uber and Lyft was poorly screened and dangerous drivers. That didn't happen as much with the clunkier "Cabbie" model. Have you ever been sent to the wrong destination by GPS? When it's wrong, it can be REALLY wrong! And finally, I'm a bit spoiled by the ease of transferring cash to a card or electronic account. I'm not a paranoid Big Brother type, but I am concerned about how much is out there that can as we have seen, be easily hacked.

Ask Dale

"Dale, my home has been without water for 12 days and it's the county's fault. Is there something I can do to hurry them up?"

Todays Lesson on how to be a Savvy Consumer!

Hiring a third party to get you better or faster government results, such as IRS negotiation, fast-tracking air travel and cutting through red tape.

Fast - Do they want your money NOW? Companies that claim to be "fixers" are dime a dozen. In absence of research and a written agreement, never pay them anything in advance.

Funds - Is the investment required relevant to the promised payoff? If not, it's likely too good to be true. Exaggerated promises of returns or results are a red flag.

Found - A person who intends to rip you off will make certain he can't be found after he gets your money. Fraudulent fixers love the internet. Real offices, face to face meetings via Zoom and thorough credential checks are a must.

Define - Products, Offers and Prices. As with any pricey transaction, thoroughly examine offers and shop around.

Ensure - Your deal with an Ethical negotiation, an Equitable contract and an Effective Guarantee. This is a field consumers have a decided disadvantage when negotiating. I advise you to involve a professional or an attorney.

Authenticate - Your deal by requesting References, checking Reviews, and examining government and watchdog reports. Fixers who can really fix should have raving fans and reviews. Check them and ask for 20 references. Call the three of your choosing.

Legitimize your deal by determining if the company has a business license, liability insurance and is Lawsuit and background checked.Web based fixers often have no real business identity or presence. Don't fall for tall promises or cheap prices without thoroughly investigating the businesses legitimacy.
