Three for Thursday 7.07.2022

Welcome to TrustDALE's Three For Thursday with Consumer Investigator Dale Cardwell.

Walt Disney was a genius. Walt Daisy was crazy. Walt Disney was a crazy genius. I say this because according to what I've read, Walt hit a homerun with Snow White. It got him out of debt and saved the company. So, what did he do next? He risked it all again to build Disneyland. He created a physical destination out of imaginary story, and people love that story. I know, because I chased my granddaughter all over Disney World recently with a heat index of 105 degrees. What's more, everything there was selling Disney, tangible products that represented an imaginary story. Beyond food, water, and shelter, everything you purchase comes with a story, usually tied to how you believe that product makes you feel about yourself, or how you think you're perceived by others. Next time you consider a big purchase, think about that. It just might save you some money!

Todays Lesson on how to be a Savvy Consumer!

Today's seven-point lesson is on discerning the difference between buying a story vs. a product.

Fast - Do they want your money NOW? Sellers that want your money now - are very likely depending on emotion playing a role in your decision, and emotion is triggered by a story.

Funds - Is the investment required relevant to the promised payoff? Too good to be true is also a story.

Found - A person who intends to rip you off will make certain he can't be found after he gets your money. Failing to determine the permanent home base of a seller is always a mistake.

Define - Your deal by comparing product, Offer and Price. Researching these three variables will help you make certain the story matches the product you need, not just want.

Ensure - Your deal with an Ethical negotiation, an Equitable contract, and an Effective Guarantee. If these elements are missing, you're probably being lured with a story more than the product.

Authenticate - Your deal by requesting References, checking reviews, and examining government and watchdog reports. False stories are exposed in reviews.

Legitimize - your deal by determining if the company has a business license, liability insurance and is Lawsuit and background checked. Con artists rely on stories, legitimate sellers don't have to.
