I've learned over the years that "you don't know what you don't know" - until you know it. For example, who does your automobile body shop work for, you or your insurance provider? Learn from the frustrations of this woman and what you need to find out, because This Could Happen to You!

Here's today's real consumer question, from Sheila. She wants to know if she must pay discount points in order to get the best interest rate - even though she has excellent credit. This one may surprise you.

Today's lesson on how to search for the best home mortgage interest rate:
Fast - Do they want your money NOW? Never accept a loan before you thoroughly investigate your obligations and compare it to other offers.
Funds - Is the investment required relevant to the promised payoff? If not, it's likely too good to be true. Beware of unsolicited offers delivered through mail or email.
Found - A person who intends to rip you off will make certain he can't be found after he gets your money.
Define - Your deal by comparing Products, Offers and Prices. While big name banks can offer competitive rates, I recommend you contact a mortgage broker who can shop multiple lending sources not tied to one provider
Ensure - Your deal with an Ethical negotiation, an Equitable contract and an Effective Guarantee. In the case of Sheila, she had been engaged in an unethical negotiation in that her lender had led her to believe she needed to pay points to get an interest rate she should have earned with her credit score alone.
Authenticate - Your deal by requesting References, checking Reviews, and examining government and watchdog reports. It's always a good idea to get competing quotes
Legitimize - Your deal by determining if the company has a business license, liability insurance and is Lawsuit and background checked.
