Watch this Investigation

This week's investigation: You've heard all your life that it's important to cooperate with the authorities and patriotic to help protect the homeland. Well, watch what happens when Sue tried to report a security breach in the public's water supply.

Ask Dale

Here's today's real consumer question: Charles asks: Is the city, county or state responsible for my car damages?I just got 2 flat tires from potholes!

Todays Lesson on how to be a Savvy Consumer!

Today's lesson on how to be a savvy consumer: How can I judge if a solicitation at my door is legit or too good to be true? I am pretty much never in favor of opening your door to an unsolicited salesperson, but if you do:

Fast - Do they want your money NOW?Door to door solicitors often want you to sign a contract or hand over the money at the time of the offer. NEVER do either.

Funds - Is the amount of investment far smaller than the promised pay-off? That's a formula for too good to be true! Here's a popular scam: "We have a lot of leftover asphalt and it's enough to repave your driveway for a third of the normal price." This is a set-up. Shut your door in their face!

Found - A person who intends to rip you off will make certain he can't be found after he gets your money. If the solicitor appears to have a good product and a fair offer, make certain they have a verifiable identity (driver's license) and valid documentation of their verbal offer. Get it in writing, but don't sign a contract the same day!

Define - Your deal by comparing Products, Offers and Prices.

Ensure - Your deal with an Ethical negotiation, an Equitable contract and an Effective Guarantee. Hard to confirm at the time of an unsolicited offer.

Authenticate - Your deal by requesting References, checking Reviews, and examining government and watchdog reports. Hard to confirm at the time of an unsolicited offer.

Legitimize - Your deal by determining if the company has a business license, liability insurance and is Lawsuit and background checked. Hard to confirm at the time of an unsolicited offer.
