Here's today's real consumer question: Tori asks, "I keep getting pop ups on my screen telling me my computer has been compromised and I need to purchase protection software. Is this for real?"

Todays Lesson on how to be a Savvy Consumer!

Today's lesson on how to be a savvy consumer: I just arrived in a new town. How do I choose the most economical transportation and remain safe?

Fast - Do they want your money NOW? Never accept a ride from a taxi if they claim their meter is broke or temporarily not in service. Paying cash for your trip is usually not in your favor.

Funds - Is the amount of investment far smaller than the promised pay-off? That's a formula for too good to be true!

Found - A person who intends to rip you off will make certain he can't be found after he gets your money. A true taxi operator will have a badge and will clearly display his certifying authority. You can also check the validity of your Uber or Lyft driver because you contact them, they don't contact you. Be very careful about hiring a driver on the curb. There are too many safe opportunities that should prevent you from taking chances.

Define - Your deal by comparing Products, Offers and Prices. Public transportation is still most often the best deal. If you're traveling light, the bus might be your best bet.

Ensure - Your deal with an Ethical negotiation, an Equitable contract and an Effective Guarantee.

Authenticate - Your deal by requesting References, checking Reviews, and examining government and watchdog reports. Uber and Lyft allow you to see your driver's ratings. If you don't like what you see, chose another driver. Whether you ride in a taxi or online transportation, always ask for and secure a receipt.

Legitimize - Your deal by determining if the company has a business license, liability insurance and is Lawsuit and background checked.
