Today's real consumer question: How much up-front is "too much" to ask for?

Todays Lesson on how to be a Savvy Consumer!

Every week we want to show you how to apply the seven step investigative process (FFF-DEAL) to protect yourself.

Fast (Don't agree to purchase something under undo pressure)

Funds (Don't believe in a payment or return that's too good to be true)

Found (Don't do business with someone who you later discover can't be found)

Define your deal by exploring the Product, collecting Offers to arrive at a fair Price.

Ensure your negotiation is ethical, your contract is equitable and you have an Effective guarantee in the event something goes wrong

Authenticate your deal through References, Reviews and Reports

Legitimize your deal by check if the entity has a business license, a professional license (if required by the state), has Liability insurance, and has a clean Law suit history.

In Natasha's situation, (see today's investigation) she should have Authenticated her Deal with Sports and Imports by searching their online reputation. She would have found an "F" with the BBB along with numerous similar complaints. This should have stopped her DEAL dead in its tracks. I would also apply the second "F" of Fast Funds Found. It's unreaasonable to believe a car dealership will give you title to a car worth thousands of dollars when you send the dealer four referrals valued at $250 each. The math doesn't work, in other words, it's too good to be true!
