TrustDALE's Three For Thursday 8.1.19
Welcome to TrustDALE's Three For Thursday with Consumer Investigator Dale Cardwell.
Hi Trustees! Wait, what? That's right, you're a Trustee! A Trustee is a person who's not only discovered the TrustDALE website but identifies with a group of people who want "win-win" relationships when making buying decisions. That simply means you don't want to worry about getting ripped off, and you also don't mind if an honest company makes a fair profit when selling you a great product. Thank you for being a valued TrustDALE Trustee!
Today's investigation involves a guy (we'll call Bob) who found himself the victim of two companies who simply pointed the finger at the other in order to avoid solving Bob's problem. We found a fun way to tell the story when the companies insisted on anonymity in trade for fixing Bob's problem. Also be sure to check out how Bob's story relates to our Seven Steps to Becoming a Savvy Consumer below.

If they quoted me one price over the phone, what do I do when the price goes up before they start the work at my home?

Today's lesson on how to be a savvy consumer
The case of Bob and his clunky car.
Fast - Do they want your money NOW?
Funds - Is the amount of investment far smaller than the promised pay-off? That's a formula for too good to be true!
Found - A person who intends to rip you off will make certain he can't be found after he gets your money
Define - Your deal by comparing Products, Offers and Prices.
Ensure - Your deal with an Ethical negotiation, an Equitable contract and an Effective Guarantee.
Authenticate - Your deal by requesting References, checking Reviews, and examining government and watchdog reports. Here's where Bob's deal fell apart, and how he turned the tables on the finger-pointers! The service company as well as the car manufacturer relied on the consumer's confusion as the basis to not take action. Bob turned that around by using "reports" to expose both companies' refusal to take responsibility. Specifically, he reported his story to TrustDALE Investigates and the car manufacturer agreed to replace Bob's engine at no cost to avoid bad publicity.
Legitimize - Your deal by determining if the company has a business license, liability insurance and is Lawsuit and background checked.
