A recent Federal Trade Commission investigation discovered GoodRx was sharing private medical info with advertisers. Learn more about this SKetchy of the Week!

GoodRx was designed to help people save money on prescription drugs and other healthcare services. But according to the FTC, the company illegally shared private health information with online advertisers! They shared your private data with companies like Facebook, Google, and others that want to target you with ads.

Now we all know that websites have cookies that can track your buying habits. But a health app doing it is a major no-no.

According to the FTC's complaint, GoodRx violated the FTC Act by sharing sensitive personal health information for years with advertising companies and platforms—contrary to its privacy promises—and failed to report these unauthorized disclosures as required by the Health Breach Notification Rule.

GoodRx agreed to an FTC settlement that bans it from sharing any of your private health information in the future. The company also agreed to pay a one-time fine of $1.5 million. The settlement also orders GoodRx to ask its advertising partners to delete the data it collected about you.

What are the odds these advertisers will actually delete your information? Tell us what you think!
