Welcome to TrustDALE's Three For Thursday with Consumer Investigator Dale Cardwell.

I find it fascinating how the way we interpret and act on information can be deadly or incredibly liberating. For example, as the corona virus spread, most realized we had little option but to trust the medical professionals who paid their dues and earned the right to lead and advise. The result was a vaccine delivered in record time. Looking back, it could have been so much worse. Looking forward, we face the promise and risk of A. I. (artificial intelligence). Once again, most of us will choose to listen and learn from people who have studied the data and earned the right to share best practices. Looking back, it appears humankind has made mostly sound choices when faced with unpredictable change. It also seems that the stakes keep getting higher. While the media gives voice to the shrill for the purpose of moving ratings despite the cost, I have found that being patient and willing to listen is the prudent path forward, not only for being a savvy consumer but being a responsible citizen and human being.

Todays Lesson on how to be a Savvy Consumer!

Today's seven-point lesson is on deciding whether to take a chance on a new product or service.

Fast - Do they want your money NOW? Demands for full payment in advance signal a possible lack of faith in the ability to fulfill.

Funds - Is the investment required relevant to the promised payoff? Deals to be an early adapter can be tempting. Make certain your investment is not at a level you might regret when you learn more.

Found - A person who intends to rip you off will make certain he cannot be found after he gets your money. Funny how people who can't be found after the sale are often the people offering early entry opportunities.

Define - Your deal by comparing product, Offer and Price. New products or services often come without the opportunity to compare. Caveat emptor, or buyer beware!

Ensure - Your deal with an Ethical negotiation, an Equitable contract, and an Effective Guarantee. Taking your time and taking these prudent steps almost never results in regret.

Authenticate - Your deal by requesting References, checking reviews, and examining government and watchdog reports. Early entry opportunities often come without references and reviews. Proceed with caution!

Legitimize - your deal by determining if the company has a business license, liability insurance and is lawsuit and background checked. Companies with proven track records usually avoid selling products or services that can put their reputations at risk. Fly by night companies, not so much!
