TrustDALE's Three For Thursday

Welcome to TrustDALE's Three For Thursday with Consumer Investigator Dale Cardwell.

I’m fascinated by paradigm shifts. Please know this is not a political post, but the one that has my attention now is the idea our federal government has been spending billions, if not trillions, on wasteful, and some say, corrupt pursuits. Agree with it or not, this is the most serious examination of America’s spending priorities since Ronald Reagan took office in 1981. At its core, government is people deciding together what is best left to the individual and what is best accomplished by a group. In 1981, the movement resulted in a significant tax reduction and shift in the tax code, but it wasn’t paired with spending cuts, and I suspect that will be the result again. Whether you realize it or not, our system is based on politicians raising money from special interests, giving the money to media outlets, and politicians in turn, doing what special interests want and the media not exposing this cycle because it’s not in the media’s financial interest. This cycle is being challenged like no time since 1960, and I’ll watch with fascination to see how it turns out.

Today's Lesson On How To Be A Savvy Consumer!

Today's seven-point lesson is on interpreting truth in advertising.

Fast - Do they want your money NOW? Anyone who talks you into paying 100% up front without delivering the product simultaneously, is likely not worried about being exposed after they have your money.
Funds - Is the investment required relevant to the promised payoff? Welcome to mice-type!
Found - A person who intends to rip you off will make certain he cannot be found after he gets your money. Much like “Fast” above, discovering a lie after he/she has your money is worthless.
Define – Your deal by comparing Product, Offer and Price. You can often discern misleading advertising when you compare products, offer and price.
Ensure - Your deal with an Ethical negotiation, an Equitable contract, and an Effective Guarantee. This is your best chance at learning the truth behind the claim. Take it to an expert if you don’t understand the agreement.
Authenticate - Your deal by requesting References, checking reviews, and reviewing watchdog reports. Companies that use tricks in advertising are often exposed in bad reviews.
Legitimize - Your deal by figuring out if the company has a business license, liability insurance and is Lawsuit and background searched. Companies that consistently mislead people don’t stay in business in the long run, but the damage they do in the short run can be substantial. Check lawsuit history!
